Adult

I work with individuals with issues including relationship problems; bereavement and loss; anger; anxiety; depression; low self esteem or low self confidence and problems arising from past experiences of abuse and trauma.

This therapy may also be helpful where there is a sense that life feels empty, meaningless or unfulfilled.

It is important that you seek therapy because it is what you want and not solely because others want you to, such as family, friends or partners.

I work in a way that helps to explore issues in the context of the past as well as the present. Although the past can be significant therapy is not (contrary to popular belief) exclusively about childhood. It is the interaction of past and present that is relevant. Often the therapeutic relationship will recreate patterns of relating which may underlie the very reason why therapy is sought.

Perhaps therapy is being considered because of feelings of anxiety or depression or a feeling of disappointment or puzzlement about repetitions of the same unhappy experiences. Whatever the reason, I think you need to have the desire to develop personal insight so as to discover the meaning of unsatisfactory or painful life situations and experiences. Part of our joint exploration may include thinking about your dreams. This will indicate your acceptance that ultimately the cause of your symptoms and feelings lies within yourself which is an acknowledgement of the concept of the unconscious mind.

The aim of therapy will be to increase your self-awareness and understanding which then allows for meaningful change. This will lead towards a more creative, satisfying and fulfilling way of being.

Sessions are at least once each week for 50 minutes. More frequent sessions of twice and three times weekly may be appropriate.
